The Wilmington Railroad Museum is a fun and educational experience for all ages. Our first trip to the railroad museum was December 2021 with my Grandpa and it was just as fun for him as it was for JJ! This past year for JJ’s birthday we got a membership from my mom and it has been the perfect adventure on hot, summer days.
There are five areas in the Wilmington Railroad Museum including the gift shop, museum, kid’s area with train toys, model room and outdoor area with a life-size locomotive and caboose! If you can pull the kids away from the steam locomotive, the indoor kid’s area has a train table, a ride on wooden train, a conductor’s outfit and many more fun toys.
The model room is especially fun because there’s so many unique and interesting details such as the hot air balloon, the houses with Christmas lights on in August and especially the little blue truck. There are platforms for the kids to stand on to see all the action up close. The kids can activate the action all on their own with the pedals around the room.
The membership we were gifted is the club car membership. It’s only $80 a year and you get a 10% discount in the gift shop plus four complimentary passes to the Wilmington Children’s Museum! One trip to the Railroad Museum and the Children’s Museum would be $80 alone for a family of four so this is a great deal.
I wish the museum was open earlier than 10am but it allows us to take a stroll around the riverwalk. Don’t forget to grab your parking pass inside and put it in your window!
