Comparison

If you’re reading this chances are you’re on social media. If you’re on social media, chances are you’ve compared yourself to someone once. Or twice… or more than that. It’s so easy to do, and we do it so much that we often don’t even realize it. You’ll watch a makeup tutorial, or see an #OOTD inspiring and save the post for later because you want what that person has.

I’ve had friends reach out to me and compliment me on my life and it takes everything I have to not laugh out loud. They’ll say, “Oh you have it all! The dream job, the dream guy, and you always look so stylish!” First off, I don’t even live with my husband. Honestly, I don’t think I need much more explanation of how un-perfect my life is after that one sentence.

You’re not the only one with challenges. Welcome to being human! We’re all imperfect and have difficulties. But- there is a difference between you and me. There is something you might not see about me just from scrolling, and no it’s not me sleeping on the couch Friday nights bingeing the latest on Netflix by myself. It’s Jesus.

I do think my life is one for others to desire, but it’s not because of my job, because of my dream man, or even because of my closet. It’s because of Jesus. Because of Jesus I strive to be the best version of myself, I strive to be more Christ-like. Because of Jesus I give myself grace for the mistakes I’ve made and have the power to not make them again. Because of Jesus I find the joy in every situation. Because of Jesus I don’t need validation from anyone because his is all that matters.

Maybe you don’t believe in Jesus the way I do, that’s okay. I didn’t at first either. I am four years into my faith journey and I still struggle. But, I bet you wish you believed in Jesus the way I do. As my pastor said this week, “In the deepest part of your soul, you hope this is true.” You hope that Heaven and Jesus are real. You hope that you have a purpose and a meaning beyond your 9-5, beyond the boyfriend who is bad news for you, beyond what your life is now.

If you want to lead a life worth living, a life with more- find Jesus and follow him. Find a church and check it out a few times. Download a daily devotional app and test it out for a week. Feel free to reach out to me, or someone who follows the Lord who you trust and just ask questions. If you search for him, he will find you.

Yes, comparison is the thief of joy. But sometimes when you’re checking out someone else’s grass, you might see the reason it’s greener is because it has a light your’s doesn’t. That light is Jesus.
