Guest lists, in general, are hard but especially for a military couple with military friends. There’s a reason everyone gets married right after graduation, training or deployments- because there’s no other time to get hitched!
Jett and I invited about 140 people to our wedding. We were hoping to have around 125 guests. According to most wedding websites, you’ll have an 80% acceptance rate… Boy, was that off! We had a little over half of our guest list ended up making the trip to Texas. Yes, it was a “destination wedding,” if you want to be technical about it. Really though, Jett and I don’t have one home base and neither do his military friends.
A big factor to our small guest turn out was that we gave almost everyone a guest, so if one person couldn’t make it- that meant there were two RSVPs for “No.” If you’re planning a military wedding keep in mind that not all of your military guests will be on the same schedule you and your fiancĂ© are on.
All through the wedding planning process one of the things I was most excited for was a saber arch. Unfortunately, even though we invited over a dozen of Jett’s military friends, only two people were able to make the wedding. The saber arch was a no-go.
Things are not going to go exactly as planned on your big day. It’s not going to be exactly 100% how you first imagined it, and that’s okay. It’s still going to be the best day of your life!
Keep following along with my Wedding Wednesday series to see other ways I incorporated Jett’s military service into our big day even without a saber arch!
