It’s so exciting the first time your baby rolls over. However, that exciting feat is quickly followed by the dreaded four-month sleep regression… Your little one starts practicing their new talent all the time- even when their supposed to be sleeping and that causes many, many restless nights. The good news? It doesn’t last forever.
With the newfound rolling skill, we discovered JJ is a tummy sleeper just like his momma and daddy. Unfortunately, our previous night time cloth diaper situation no longer worked for us… So, what did we do?
As soon as JJ began sleeping on his stomach he started having compression leaks and got a diaper rash. Up until this point we had been pairing a microfiber insert with either hemp or bamboo and having zero issues. It took us awhile to resolve the rash and figure out a night time solution but we are finally in the clear!
Our current night time cloth diaper routine is Flips organic cotton night time inserts and a cover. We use Burt’s Bees multipurpose ointment which is a cloth diaper-safe cream for diaper rash prevention. Additionally, I cut up a fleece blanket from Dollar Tree to place between the insert and JJ’s bum to help wick away moisture.
We have also updated our naptime cloth diapering routine. I either add a hemp or bamboo insert to the microfiber insert to double the absorbency. I have been folding the bamboo inserts in half and stuffing them under the microfiber insert up in JJ’s wet zone aka right on the front. He is a boy and a belly sleeper so this is where his wet zone is. For our hemp inserts I have been folding the microfiber insert in half on top of the hemp insert and putting that up in his wet zone. We do use the fleece liners at naptime but don’t always need to add the Burt’s Bees ointment.
As for ridding JJ of his diaper rash we had lots of nakey tummy time on a puppy pee pad! We had a few left over from our hospital stay but Dollar Tree also usually has a pack of 6.
Every baby is different as is their cloth diaper routine. This is what works for us, it may not work for you or this may not all be necessary for your little one. Cloth diapering is a matter of trial and error, if you’re working through new routines or setups please feel free to reach out and I’m happy to help you as much as I can.
