A few weeks ago I was feeling really crafty- I mean really crafty. I made pillows from dollar store placements and I added pompoms to almost everything I own. Is anyone else obsessed with pompoms?
Anyway, I had a bunch of leftover favors from our wedding. We gave out dog tags to our friends and family and I ended up creating this Dog Tag Christmas Tree!
I was actually scouring Pinterest for cheap, DIY ideas to decorate my office. We were having an office decorating contest and I wanted to participate without spending a bunch of money or pull decorations from my apartment. Then, I stumbled upon a DIY Christmas tree made out of spoons. Have you seen those? As soon as I saw them I immediately thought of the leftover dog tags!
DIY Dog Tag Christmas Tree
Cost: ~ $10
Time: < 10 minutes
Materials Needed:
- Dog Tags
- Styrofoam Cone for $4.19
- Loops & Threads™ Long Pearlized Pins for $4.19
- Hot Glue
- Hot Glue Gun
- Tree Topper- I found the silver one I used from Dollar Tree.
I started at the bottom and worked my way up the cone. There were some rows with extra space that a whole dog tag wouldn’t fit. I chose to make that the back of my tree.
For the tree topper, I put hot glue on the three places it touched the tree when I set it on top.
I was thinking it might be cool to hang the chains around the tree like a garland, but I ended up just leaving it as it.
If you still have a few people to buy gifts for this holiday season, this would be a great idea for his mom!
